Thrill-seekers were left with no choice but to descend a roller coaster on foot after a sudden power cut stopped the ride mid-journey.

The heart-stopping evacuation unfolded at Parque del Café, a theme park in Quindío, Colombia, with dramatic footage capturing the moment going viral on TikTok on Monday (October 21).

The person filming the incident explained: “There was a power outage and all passengers had to get off and walk. Some people are scared, nervous, but it’s a unique experience.”

According to La FM, park officials said the power outage was dealt with by stopping the ride, to prevent carts rolling back. The roller coaster returned to operation a short while later after the necessary checks were carried out. Park officials added that similar incidents occur on rides all across the world, hence there were procedures to follow to avoid an accident.

The park’s website boasts that the ride hits a height of 22 metres, with a spiralled ascent followed by a free-fall propelling carts at speeds reaching 80kmph (50mph).

The description reads: “Live an experience full of emotions in the longest roller coaster in Colombia. Get on its row-seat trains and get ready for an adrenaline-filled 1,150-metre ride.

“The ride begins with a 22-metre spiral ascent. As you climb, the anticipation builds to reach the top and freefall down through incredible twists, turns and descents, where you’ll experience speeds of up to 80 kmph (50 mph). At the end, a tunnel awaits you to close this epic experience with a flourish. A classic roller coaster designed for the whole family.”

Noticias Caracol reports that a similar incident occurred at the same theme park earlier in January this year, when seven people, including a child, had to be rescued from a different ride.
